Today, I will share Billboard to Me (BB2ME) number 43 – trips to Europe open doors. I will talk about one of my favorite topics, European travel.
Europe is my playground.
Let’s start with the fact that Europe is my playground. Whenever I have a chance to travel, my top choice destination is somewhere in Europe. It’s that plain and simple. I also enjoy going to the Caribbean and wandering around the States, but my top choice is always Europe. Below, you see a picture of me from a recent trip to Vienna, Austria. I am standing in front of the Schoenbrunn Palace.
I visit Europe a few times a year.
If you don’t believe me, let’s look at the data, which never lies. I’ve been to Europe over twenty times in the past decade. That’s right, I average more than two trips a year. It has become somewhat of an obsession. Last year, I went four different times. For example, Kim and I went to Italy during Thanksgiving break. Below, you see a picture of us in Florence watching the sunset. It doesn’t get much better than that.
We have taken all our kids to Europe.
Before any of you think that Kim and I are horrible parents. Yes, we do take the children with us. On multiple trips, we have taken all the kids, Gavin, Riley, Kakes, and Rawley. For example, a picture of Kim and me with her kids in Paris is below.
BB2ME #43 – Trips to Europe open doors to new experiences.
Why I wrote this BB2ME
I want my sons to have the opportunity to experience all that this world has to offer. Both of them have been to Europe multiple times. Riley lived in Germany for a year to play soccer. I took Gavin over to visit his brother during Thanksgiving break, and we had a wonderful time. The reality, though, is kids don’t always appreciate things until later in life. That’s why I wrote this billboard.
How I incorporated this billboard into my life
I’ve been to Europe many, many times. I lived in Germany for 4 years in the mid-1990s and traveled all over. However, there’s still much for me to see and experience there. I’ll continue to travel as long as I can. I recently returned from Austria. Next month, Kim and I are taking the kids to Italy for Thanksgiving, and I’m already looking at the calendar for 2025.
What about you?
To my sons, I hope you will continue to accompany me on trips over the coming years. To anyone else reading this blog, I hope you can visit whatever part of the world you want. Don’t sit around thinking, “One day, I’ll go.” Make that day today. Start planning and get going. You won’t regret it.
I am Doug Keating, and this is my letter to my sons.
