Today, I will share Billboard to Me (BB2ME) number 47: you can reach the finish line and reach your dream. It may take years, but you can do it.
I dream big about my life.
Like many people, and perhaps some of you reading this blog, I have big dreams for my life, and I always encourage my sons to dream big.
You must take action to achieve your big dream.
The challenge we dreamers face is that we must take action for our dreams to become reality. Every year, I dream big, set goals, and then take action. It’s one thing to think about, and it’s another thing to do something about your dreams.
We all face obstacles and challenges in our lives.
The reality for all of us in life is that we will face challenges and obstacles-not one or two but a series of challenges and obstacles throughout our lives. It’s something we have to be able to deal with.
Some obstacles may take years to overcome.
The bad news for many of us is that some obstacles may take years to overcome. You’re not going to fix it overnight. No, it’s going to take a long time.
BB2ME #47 — you can make it to the finish line.
This billboard was inspired by my making my last alimony payment to my ex-wife in August 2019.
Why I wrote this BB2ME
I wrote this billboard as a celebration of finally overcoming a significant obstacle, which was paying alimony money to my ex-wife. She and I went through a nasty divorce. During the negotiation process, she requested that I pay her a considerable amount of monthly alimony for the rest of my life. I didn’t agree to those terms. I hadn’t done anything to justify such a substantial financial burden. Instead, I agreed to pay a sizeable monthly alimony until my sons graduated high school and went to college. That happened in August of 2019. I decided to pay this not because my ex-wife deserved it. She didn’t. No, I decided to make these payments so that my sons didn’t suffer because of the bad decisions their mother had made.
How I incorporated this billboard into my life
When I started making alimony payments, I created a scorecard that showed all the payments I would have to make until August 2019. Wow, when I looked at that, it seemed like it would take forever. I took action and started making monthly payments, checking off as I went. After many years, I reached the finish line and could return to making my big dream a reality. I incorporated this billboard into my life by dreaming big, setting enormous goals, taking action, and tracking my progress. It may seem daunting when you take the first few steps. However, you and I can both get to the finish line.
What about you? Do you have a big dream?
Have you set hairy, audacious goals? Maybe you’re facing obstacles and challenges that will take years to overcome. You can do it just like I did by making alimony payments year after year. I want to encourage you to dream big, set goals, and take action. You can get to the finish line.
I am Doug Keating, and this is my letter to my sons.
