Today I will share BB2ME number 49 – Your castle, your rules. In other words, decorate your house however you want. Make sure that it reflects your passions.
I lived alone after my divorce.
After my divorce from the mother of my children, I was single and lived alone for several years. I lived in a townhouse for a while and moved around before settling in a condo in Reston Town Center. It became my new castle.

Interior design was not my forte
One thing you must do when moving into a new place is decorate it. I will confess interior design is not one of my fortes. Whenever we moved, my first wife did all the decorating. After moving into my condo and Reston Town Center, I pondered what I should do when it comes to decorations.

I wanted my castle to reflect my passions
I decided I wanted my condo to reflect my passions. When people visited, they saw what I enjoyed doing. I have a lot of passions. For anybody that knows me well near the top of that list if not at the top is European travel.

BB2ME #49 – Your castle, your rules. Decorate it how you want.
The blank walls on my condo inspired this billboard.

Why I wrote this BB2ME
I wrote the billboard as a reminder that while living alone, I could do whatever I wanted when decorating my condo. That meant I could buy the furniture I wanted and put whatever struck my fancy on the walls. Below you see a picture of that condo. You can see the mid-century furniture that I like, as well as a print of Paris, a map of Amsterdam, and some photos from a trip Kim and I had taken to the Netherlands.

How I incorporated this billboard into my life
I incorporated this billboard into my life by ensuring that wherever I live, it will reflect me and my passions. Nowadays I’m married. I live in a house. I’m no longer alone and do not have all the decision-making authority regarding decorations in the house. However if you were to go in my office you will definitely see things that reflect me. If you go in our basement the European travel stuff is all over.

What about you?
If I visited where you live, would your abode reflect you and your passions? Or would it be a bunch of stuff somebody told you to put up, or you just found in a catalog? If that’s the case, get it together, remember your castle, your rules.
