If you only have a week to spend in Europe I recommend staying in one region to maximize your time. Today I am sharing the top five regions in Europe I love to visit. Let’s kick things off with region #1.

Region #1 – Catalonia, Spain

I spent over a week there a few years ago, went all over the place, and loved it. Spain is comprised of several regions – Catalonia is one of the better known. It includes the capital city of Barcelona. Barcelona is beautiful. Catalonia is full of other wonderful sites to see. Get around and experience the local area. Montserrat is definitely worth a day visit. A mystical upon the mountaintop.

Watching Barca play live was incredible.

Region #2 – Bavaria, Germany

When most Americans hear the word Germany, they picture Bavaria. I lived there and loved it. If there is one reason to visit Bavaria, it is for the world-class beer. German beer is the best – so good. Bavaria is also home to the greatest soccer team in the world, Bayern Munchen.

Prost! Bavarians make great beer.

Region #3 – Normandy, France

As an American, there is one major reason to visit Normandy – the World War II sites. Go see the beaches, the cemetery, and witness firsthand where some of America’s bravest fought and died. I have been multiple times – it is a moving place to get perspective and gain an appreciation for what others did so that we can all live free.

Region #4 – Holland, the Netherlands

The best advantage about visiting Holland is that it is so easy to get around the region using the public transportation system. When Kim and I were there we visited five different cities in one week – Amsterdam, Haarlam, Leiden, Delft and Rotterdam. You can see so much without wasting precious hours stuck in a car, or on a train. Go visit this fascinating tiny part of Europe. You will enjoy it.

Region #5 – Alsace, France

Alsace is located on the border with Germany. It will remind you a lot of Germany. If you have seen the movie Beauty and the Beast, then you have seen what an Alsatian village looks like. I have visited Alsace many, many times, and it is wonderful. It is full of cute villages, wine, and great food. What more could you ask for in a region.

Three quick questions about regions in Europe

  1. What is the next region I want to visit the most – Northern Italy. I really want to get back there soon.
  2. What is the new region I want to explore soon – Northern Ireland. Belfast and GoT sites, plus a rugged coastline.
  3. What is the obscure region I want to discover – Cornwall. Kim and I watched Poldark and Cornwall looks awesome.
We hope to visit Northern Italy after the pandemic.
