I stood on my porch overlooking Reston Town Center. The snow was coming down in big flakes. Holy moly – the weather report was actually accurate. It was on Wednesday. Schools were closed. The government was closed. I was working from home as the snowstorm continued.
Some weeks you get all four seasons
The weather last week was wild and weird. We experienced all four seasons – snow, rain, wind, and sunshine. Wednesday it was cold and snowy. The next day it was sunny and warm. This weekend it rained hard on Saturday. Today the sun is peaking out and the temperature is rising rapidly. Despite the wacky weather, I tried to make the most of a weird week.
Sunday – an unfun run day
The weather was good last Sunday. I decided to go for a run. I have not done much running this winter due to the weather and a lingering injury. I was well rested and feeling fine. A long run (over 5 miles for me) seemed like a good idea. It was for the first three miles. The last two were painful. Lots of walking. I finished ugly and tired. Hope my run today is better.
Monday – hard work on a holiday
Monday was a federal holiday. Normally I relax on holidays and take a break. Not this day. I am working on a passion project – All The Way! Leadership. I plan to launch the blog officially this Friday, 1 March. Achieving the dream of building my own company is much harder than I ever anticipated. I decided to spend Monday working on the digital course I will launch at the end of the summer. It was time well spent – made a lot of progress in one day.
Tuesday – out with friends night
One of my friends was recently offered a new job in New York City. He is heading to the big apple next month. A group of us celebrated his accomplishment with a small gathering at Jack Rose Dining Saloon in Adams Morgan. Great place. We had a fun drinking whiskey, smoking cigars and telling stories. We may visit my friend in NYC later this year after he settles in.
Wednesday – work from home day
The snowstorm hit. It was strong as predicted. Everything closed to include my office. Spent the day drinking hot coffee and working from home. It was a rather productive day. Wednesday night is usually date night for Kim and I. The roads were not bad so I headed to her place for dinner. I told her daughter that she should flush ice cubes down the toilet and wear her pajamas inside out to get another day off from school. It worked. Schools were closed again on Thursday. Fun for kids. Bummer for parents.
Thursday – back in the office day
Thursday was business as usual – back in the office. But, everyone was confused about what day of the week it was. Felt like a Monday. But, then again, Monday was a holiday. A day off, a day on, a day off, a day on. It made for a strange workweek pattern. I cannot recall another week like this one. Traffic was good. I bet many people decided to take Thursday and Friday off to get a
Friday – busy as hell day
My Friday schedule is usually not that bad. The morning is always full, and things tend to wind down in the afternoon. Not last Friday. Many meetings from earlier in the week were delayed until Friday which made for a busy as hell day. I don’t mind working hard. It makes the hours pass by faster. I am not a big fan of being busy. It can wear on you and tired minds make mistakes. It is unusual for my Friday afternoons to be packed full. I usually play catch-up then. Not this Friday – work bled into the weekend.
Remember that if you don’t prioritize your life someone else will.

Saturday – run around the lake day
Saturday morning the weather was decent. It would not be in the afternoon so I decided to run before noon. Most Saturdays when I am home I run around Lake Anne. It is one of my favorite routes. Some Saturdays I will grab a beer at one of my favorite breweries, Lake Anne Brewhouse, afterward. This week – no beer. I had work to do.
Saturday was not all work
Although I have to confess it was not all work yesterday. I did catch the UVA game. Glad to see my Cavaliers crush Louisville this year in men’s basketball. They barely won last year. I was inspired by the victory to publish a special All The Way! Leadership blog.
What about you?
Boys – were you able to navigate the weird weather week. I hope that both you were productive and kept moving forward towards your goals. Gavin – rebounding with a strong semester at VCU. Riley – completing your senior year so that you can play soccer at a good college.
PS – my long run this morning was ugly. Oh well. Ugly is better than nothing.
