It is time for a brand-new video. I am counting down the best song from my top fifty favorite rock bands. Here is part 2. I count down from #40 to #31. Feel free to watch part 1 if you missed it. As always your feedback and thoughts are welcome.
The criteria I used for creating this list
Here are the three criteria I used to create it:
- It must be an original song – no covers.
- I do not have to own it on vinyl.
- It does not have to be a popular song.
The best song by the B-52s is “Rock Lobster”
Let’s start this part of the list with the best song by #40, the B-52s – “Rock Lobster”. Use the link below to hear this song on Spotify. This party song is found on their wacky debut album.
Coming in at #39 is “Just What I Needed” by the Cars
At #39 is The Cars. Tough choice with this band because they had so many hit songs. Their best song is “Just What I Needed” from their unbelievably good debut album.
The best by The Connells is “Scotty’s Lament”
At #38 is The Connells. Their best song is called “Scotty’s Lament” which is found on their record Boylan Heights. It starts slow and then kicks in. If you are not familiar with this band, start with this album. If you don’t like it, I doubt that you will like much else by them.
The best by The Eagles is “Take it Easy”
At #37 is the Eagles. Another tough choice. Their best song is “Take it Easy” which is found on their debut album. Many people know all the lyrics to this one for good reason – it is an excellent sing-along tune.
At #36 – The Struts with “Everybody Wants”Body Talks”
Next up is a modern band, The Struts. Their best song is entitled “Body Talks” and is found on their second album, Young and Dangerous. They also did a version with Keisha which is really good.
The best song by Husker Du is “Ice Cold Ice”
At #35, is the legendary punk band Husker Du. Their best song is “Ice Cold Ice” found on their killer double album, Warehouse. Dave Grohl loves “Ice Cold Ice”, and so do I.
The best song by #34 – The Fixx is “Red Skies”
The best track by The Fixx may be a surprise choice. They have many great tracks. My choice is “Red Skies” which is found on their debut album, Shuttered Room.
Coming in at #33 – CCR with “Fortunate Son”
At #33 is CCR. This band has a ton of great songs. My pick is “Fortunate Son”. This Vietnam protest song is found on the album Willy and the Poor Boys.
At #32 – RHCP with “Black Summer”
At #32 is the Red-Hot Chilli Peppers. Another band with a lot of great songs. I am selecting the lead track from one of their latest records Unlimited Love called “Black Summer”. If you have not listened to this double album I recommend that you do. It is excellent.
The best song by Depeche Mode is “People are People”
At #31 is Depeche Mode. This choice is a no-brainer for me. Their best is “People are People” which is found on the record Some Great Reward. The lyrics are as relevant today as the day they wrote them. People are People, so why should it be that you and I should get along so awfully? Words to keep in mind, especially during the holiday season.
There you have it – part 2 of my newest list. If you want to listen to these songs feel free to use the Spotify playlist found below.
