It is time for a brand-new video. I am counting down the best song from my top fifty favorite rock bands. Here is part 3. I count down from #30 to #21. Feel free to watch part 1 or part 2 if you missed it. As always your feedback and thoughts are welcome.
The criteria I used for creating this list
Here are the three criteria I used to create it:
- It must be an original song – no covers.
- I do not have to own it on vinyl.
- It does not have to be a popular song.
The best song by Twenty-One Pilots is “Heavy Dirty Soul”
Let’s start the list with the best song by the modern band Twenty One Pilots. It is “Heavy Dirty Soul” found on their killer album Blurryface. This track includes a ton of energy.
Coming in at #29 – “Ghost in You” by the Psychedelic Furs
At #29 is The Psychedelic Furs. Their best song is not “Pretty in Pink”. No – it is “Ghost in You” which is found on their excellent album called Mirror Moves.
The best song by The Doors is “Break on Through”
At #28 is The Doors. Lots of great songs with this band. Their best one is “Break on Through” found on their debut album. Some of the Doors’ greatest hits are long songs that get on my nerves sometimes.
The best track by FTP is “Like Sid and Nancy”
At #27 is Foster the People. I am not picking “Pumped Up Kicks”. I don’t like the lyrics. My selection is a song most people have never heard called “Like Sid and Nancy” from their awesome album Sacred Heart’s Club. Turn this one up and feel the bass pump through your chest – boom, boom, boom!
At #26 – Spoon with “Can I Sit Next to You”
Next up is a modern band, Spoon. Their best song is a funky one called “Can I Sit Next to You” found on Hot Thoughts – a great album.
The best tune by Pearl Jam is “Better Man”
At #25, is Pearl Jam. Lots to pick from with this band. This one is an easy choice for me. Their best tune is “Better Man” which is on their album Vitalogy.
#24 – Black Crowes with “Jealous Again”
Coming in at #24 is another band with many great choices, especially from their debut album. Their best track is “Jealous Again” which is found on that awesome debut album, Shake Your Money Maker.
Coming in at #23 – The Church with “Under the Milky Way”
At #23 is an obscure Australian band, The Church. This choice is actually difficult for me because I enjoy so many of their songs. Been a fan for decades. I am picking their most popular song “Under the Milky Way” found on their album Starfish. I challenge you to listen to the rest of this record – you may like it.
At #22 – the BoDeans’ best song is “Good Things”
At #22 is the BoDeans. Another hard choice for me. My selection is a song you probably don’t know, “Good Things” found on their excellent album, Black and White.
The best song by AC/DC is “Back in Black”
At #21 is a hard-rocking band from down under AC/DC. Their best record is definitely their comeback album Back in Black which includes their best song, the title track. It simply rocks hard.
There you have it – part 3 of my newest list. If you want to listen to these songs feel free to use the Spotify playlist found below.
