I’m identifying the best three albums by my fifty favorite rock bands of all time. This blog is for band #27 – Foster the People.
Criteria for selecting the best three albums
First, the band must have at least three albums. This band only has three albums since they’re relatively new. Second Greatest Hits albums are allowed. Third no live albums. This band has done a Spotify live session which is solid and released some live music, although not a ton to date.

Here are the results from ChatGPT for rank ordering Foster the People’s albums.
- “Torches” (2011) – Considered the band’s breakthrough album, featuring their hit songs “Pumped Up Kicks,” “Helena Beat,” and “Don’t Stop (Color on the Walls).” It received critical acclaim for its infectious pop hooks, catchy melodies, and introspective lyrics.
- “Supermodel” (2014) – This album showcases the band’s growth and experimentation with different genres and sounds. It features the hit single “Coming of Age” and received positive reviews for its themes of disillusionment, consumerism, and individuality.
- “Sacred Hearts Club” (2017) – This album has a more upbeat and optimistic tone, exploring themes of love, unity, and escapism. It received mixed reviews, with some critics praising its catchy hooks and danceable beats, while others criticized its lack of depth and cohesion.
- “In the Darkest of Nights, Let the Birds Sing” (2021) – This album features re-recorded versions of some of the band’s older songs, as well as some new tracks. It received mixed reviews, with some critics praising its emotional depth and experimentation, while others criticized its inconsistency and lack of focus.
The third-best album by this band is Supermodel
The third-best Foster the People album is called Supermodel. It is an excellent record. I have it on vinyl. You’ll see I own all three of their records on vinyl. I am a big fan. The two biggest songs on this are “Coming of Age”, and “Best Friend”.
The second-best album by Foster the People
The second-best album by Foster the People is their debut record Torches. There’s one huge reason to own this album it is for the song “Pumped Up Kicks”. If you go to Spotify it has almost 1.5 billion listens. That is a huge number just for that platform alone. The rest of this album is also excellent.
The best album by Foster the People
The best album by Foster the People is Sacred Hearts Club. It’s their most recent release and it is an awesome album. Some of my favorite songs from this record are “Pay the Man”, “Sit Next to Me”, and “Lotus Eater”. If you want to have some fun and really annoy your neighbors play on “Loyal like Sid and Nancy”, roll down the windows, and crank it up. The baseline on that will shake your car. Go get this album it’s that good.
There you have it – the three best Foster The People albums. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
